Of Cocktails and Ball Gowns

Every year, my family hosts a large company Christmas party, usually at a hotel, and a lot goes into it. Entertainers, decorators, party planners, musicians, and even dressmakers are hired. One year, the theme was “Masquerade”. I remember seeing beautiful evening wear and cocktail dresses of chiffon, satin, and glitter gliding through the ball room amidst sparkling lights, decorated masks, and live classical music playing through the background. At the time, I was so busy robbing the waiters of hors d’oeuvres that I didn’t realize how magical that night could have been in the present until the photographs came out. Now as I’m staring at the pictures, I was inspired to write this article about holiday wear whether that be for Thanksgiving or Christmas – the formal kind, of course.

Fashion Psychology: Attracting His Attention

We’ve all heard it said that girls dress for other girls, and if girls had to dress for boys, then naked is the attire of choice. However, this may not all be true. Many relationships, after all, start through physical attraction, and this can be anything on your person whether that be your face, body, and even the way you dress. For this article, I decided to do extensive research on the psychology of fashion. This edition, if it isn’t already obvious, is for the girls who have crushes but don’t necessarily know how to get their attentions. (more…)

Trend Alert: Thigh High Boots

Going out on a cold day has always had its issues for a girl like me who prefers skirts and shorts over pants and leggings. Knee high boots are fashion statements to sweater weather, but today fashion has gone beyond and created the thigh high boot. I’m not saying that it solves all the issues, but the extra length definitely helps. This style has been thus far my favorite type in the boot department because it makes me feel fierce and let’s me wear my preferred style of skirts and shorts.

Sleep in Style

No matter the time nor day, every person loves to put on their pajamas and hates taking them off. They are your comfort on cold nights, your worst enemy on mornings when it’s hard to start your day, and your best friend on movie nights. But, you can’t just wear any old t-shirt and shorts to bed. You have to have a cute matching set of pajamas to slide into every night, I promise you. Striped leggings or plaid pants, thermal shirts or a satin button-up; it’s all necessary for your sleep. If you are laying your head down for your much-needed beauty rest, you should look good while doing it, right?

Furry Shoes & Socks for the Winter

There is nothing worse than walking around with cold feet during the winter months. Getting out of the shower, stepping on the cold bathroom tile, and racing to your bedroom to grab your warm socks. Or, waking up in the morning, walking into your kitchen for breakfast, and having to sit Indian-style on your chair to keep your feet warm. Either applies and both are the worst parts about the winter. Whether you opt for wool socks or furry shoes to keep all ten toes warm, both are essential to survive the colder months. Are you in need of some foot accessories for the winter? We are here to help! (more…)

Zodiac Fashion: Do You Dress Like Your Rising Sign?

The zodiac has been looked into from many perspectives, yet I’ve never really come across any detailing fashion choices based on the signs. However, how you dress may not be in relation to your zodiac at all, but rather your Rising Sign. Your rising sign is how others portray you. For example, by birth sign, I’m a Cancer, but my rising sign is a Gemini, which means people portray me as someone who is extraverted, bold, and loves to talk a little too much. I never quite saw this, but my gal friends have definitely vouched for these traits.

So without further ado, here’s the list of costumes anyone can make with the things they already have in their homes and closets:

Flatform Shoes: Yay or Nay?

We love the flatform shoes we are starting to see in stores. But just like every other trend, there are the ups and the downs, the pros and the cons, the yays and the nays. Aside from the few that have weird patterned soles or the perforated canvas body, we succeed in finding more that we like, drool over and fall in love with than ones we absolutely hate. All we have to say is: YAY! Here are a few of our favorites, take a look!

Date Trend: Style Coordination with Your Significant Other

While it may not be much of a significance in the western world, coordinating outfits for dates is actually a major trend in Asian countries. When I visited China a little over a year ago, I noticed that department stores had clothing sections for couples. We see it here too, specifically with celebrities. I mean, just look at Kim and Kanye West.

In fact, studies actually show that if you put effort into your appearance, you’re more likely to feel confident throughout the day regardless of how difficult or busy it is. Time is our biggest enemy, so how do we win against it? Easy.

The Best Street Styles of Paris Fashion Week

You come to a locked door labeled “Paris Fashion Week.” The key? An invitation. Once received, an invite unlocks an inside scoop into the international perspective of the fashion industry, a perspective that is very notable. In our case, an invite to any fashion week would be heaven-sent but to most well-known figures in the fashion world, New York Fashion Week is sub-par; you have to go bigger. Milan, Paris and London, just to name a few, are the highly-sought after, the unreachable yet reachable, the top tier of fashion week. But with an invitation comes the pressure to find the most slightly eccentric yet simply incredible ensembles to wear when you attend. Fashion week just occurred this past week, and here are our favorite styles that were seen on the cobblestone streets of the one, the only, Paris.

Trend Alert: The Off-Shoulder Look

Dainty. Feminine. Elegant.

These are the words I would use to describe the latest trend that’s been popping up on the streets. Even though the weather is steadily becoming colder, the off-shoulder look has been all the rage and is perhaps summer’s last impression. Scarves? Is that still a thing? Just kidding. But don’t underestimate this trend. It may not be the most appropriate for the colder days, but it definitely makes a girl feel all sorts of attractive.

Trends Coming Back in Style, and We Aren’t Complaining About It

More Than Meets The Eye

When I first joined Picit’s team as a marketing intern, I wasn’t quite sure what to expect and where my efforts would lead. I knew that, because Picit was a brand new startup, I would primarily be working towards getting it off the ground, and that this would require me to try on many different hats along the way. Sure enough,

Alley Boost Startup Expo

To be honest, I was a little skeptical walking into another Startup “expo” last week. Typically overcrowded and unproductive, these events would cram hundreds, or even thousands of people into a large warehouse making Times Square look empty. Tables would line every square inch of the room and 2 or 3 people discussing their company would need to address the pyramid of 10 or 15 looking to speak to them. Like I said, I was a little skeptical.
